I can check mail but can't browse?

This is a common problem many people are having with their pc's. The problem can be as simple as some ad-ware/spy-ware slowing down their browser, or as complicated as a virus that allows connectivity to the Internet without the ability to browse. Usually if the email is working fine, but a little slow, the virus is working quietly in the background using your internet connection to spread further.

The first thing to do is scan your pc for viruses. Since your pc is already compromised if you do have a virus, the best thing to do is an "online" scan. This can be done on Symantec's website at their "Security Response Center".

If you scroll down that page, on the right hand side you will see an icon that reads "Symantec Security Check". This will take you to a new site that gives you the option to scan for security vulnerabilities or scan for viruses. Click on the icon for virus scan and agree to the few dialogues that will appear as the engine is downloading and scanning your pc. When completed, it will give you a summery of any viruses found. You can either write these items down or print that page. Now that you know what the viruses are, you can go to Symantec's "Removal Tools" and download a tool(s) that will safely remove the virus(es) from your pc.

If this didn't cure the problem, you may also be infected with ad-ware/spy-ware. We recommend AdawareSE be downloaded and installed to remove the malware and give you back control of your pc.
