Setting up Your Dial-up Internet Connection on Windows 98
We recommend that you use the Internet Connection Wizard that is a standard part of Windows to install your Mechcom Dot Net Dial-up connection. You can locate the wizard by simply opening your Internet Explorer Browser and clicking on “Tools” and scrolling down to “Internet Options” (see fig. 1). |
Click on “Internet Options” and a dialog box will appear. (see fig. 2) |
There are 7 tabs across the top of the dialog box, the fifth tab is labeled “Connections”. When you click on the “Connections” tab, you will see a button labeled “Setup” (see fig. 3). |
By clicking this, the “Setup Wizard” will open and you will see three choices of setup, choose the third option to set up manually and click “next” (see fig. 4). On the next screen it will ask you how you want to connect to the internet. The first option is to connect through a phone line and modem. Be sure this is selected and click “next”. |
On the next screen it will ask you for the dial-in number. BE SURE TO INCLUDE THE AREA CODE WITH THE NUMBER (see fig. 5) and uncheck the box before “use area code”. Note: Be sure to get proper area code and number from our site. For Example - Ashland OH access number is 5672034049. Click “next”. On this screen it asks for your “user name” and “password”. Type these in just as they are listed on the Welcome sheet provided to you from Mechcom Dot Net. These are case sensitive so be sure to type them in just as they are listed. BE SURE TO ADD @mechcom.net at the username request. Example would be, user@mechcom.net as the username. Once entered click “next”. On this screen it will ask you to “name your connection”. You can type in Mechcom and click “next”. |
On this screen it will ask you if you wish to setup your Internet Mail now. If you want to continue without setting up your mail, say "no" and continue. Next, click "Finish" and your connection is now set up. If you wish to set up your email at this time, be sure "yes" is checked and click "next" |
