Using Internet Explorer 7

By default, tabbed browsing should be enabled for Internet Explorer 7, allowing you to open websites in multiple tabs inside the same browser window. But if you don't like this change, you can easily get rid of tabs.

To enable or disable tabbed browsing in Internet Explorer 7:

1. Click the "Tools" button, selecting "Internet Options".

2. When the "Internet Options" multi-tabbed dialog box appears, click the "General" tab.

3. Underneath "Tabs", click the "Settings" button.

4. A "Tabbed Browsing Settings" dialog box will appear. Near the top of the box, check or uncheck "Enable Tabbed Browsing" as desired.

5. Click "OK" on the two dialog boxes to close them.

6. Restart Internet Explorer 7 for the change to take place.

By default, Internet Explorer 7 keeps a cache of visited web pages in its Temporary Internet Files folder. This way, if you frequently view the same web pages, Internet Explorer 7 can load unchanged content such as images, multimedia, or the pages themselves from your cache instead of reloading content from the web.

While many people find the cache feature useful, others find it a potential privacy violation. If others use your computer, they may be able to figure out which sites you viewed using Internet Explorer.

Without completely disabling the cache, you can instead have Internet Explorer 7 clear temporary files every time you exit the browser by:

1. Click the "Tools" menu selecting "Internet Options".

2. When the multi-tabbed "Internet Options" dialog box appears, click the "Advanced" tab.

3. Scroll down to "Security".

4. Check "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed".

5. Click "OK" to close the dialog box.

After adding dozens, if not hundreds, of websites to your Internet Explorer 7 Favorites menu, you may find it difficult to find a particular website, especially if you do not organize your Favorites into subfolders. This is made even more difficult by the fact that the Favorites are not sorted alphabetically.

Use this tip to make your task a little easier by sorting your Internet Explorer 7 Favorites by name:

1. From Internet Explorer 7, click on the Star in the toolbar. Or, press Alt+C.

2. Click the "Favorites" button if it is not already selected.

3. Right-click on any Favorite and select "Sort By Name" from the popup menu.

Two notes:

1. Folder names will be sorted before actual Favorites.

2. When you add Favorites you will have to re-select this option for them to be re-sorted.
