My Internet connection is slow and I get email & browser errors?

   This is a problem I hear often these days. There can be many things that can lead you to the cause. First, check your anti-virus software. Be sure it is up-to-date and scan your PC. You can also run an on-line scan as well. Next, run a scan for adware/spyware. There are a lot of malware that can cause these slow downs and connection problems.

   If you complete the scans and are still experiencing problems, temporarily disable your firewall (Norton Internet Security, Zone Alarm, etc.) and try opening your web browser or email program. Sometimes an ill-configured firewall can lock you out of normal procedures. If this solution works for you, then go back to your firewall and look for the rule or setting regarding the action you were trying to perform and remove it.

   If the problem doesn't lie in a virus or within your firewall, try disabling your file-sharing program. If you have too many open states to and from your computer this can also slow down or stop your internet connection causing simple browsing and email not to function properly.

   If you are still experiencing problems after trying these steps, we recommend you take your computer tower to be looked at by a technician.
